As August approaches it may feel like summer beginning to wind down, but don’t stop making travel plans quite yet! This is one of the best months to travel for great weather and activities.  For August travel plan ideas, and generally the best places to explore in summer, check out the list below.

1. England

Wherever you want to go in England, go in August to experience the country’s best weather and warmest month. We suggest camping in the Lake District or visiting the west coast via the quaint Cornwall region to soak up the great weather in this otherwise rainy country.

2. Hungary

August is a festival-filled month in Budapest, Hungary’s capital. August 20th is St. Stephen’s Day, the celebration of the state’s foundation, while all month the yearly Summer Festival continues with shows, art and food. The Festival of Crafts (August 17-20) and Sziget Festival (August 7-13) are also not to be missed.

3. Amsterdam, Holland

Mild and sunny temperatures greet you in Holland this month, a great time to visit the biking city of Amsterdam. August is festival season here, with Loveland electronic music festival, De Parade theatre festival, Dance Valley and Pride hitting the country to keep you entertained all month long.

4. Madagascar

If wildlife is what you want out of your vacation, Madagascar is the place to be. The immense biodiversity of the island is hard to beat, and in the dry season, the natural paradise is easily accessible.

5. Argentina

August is winter time in Argentina, so if you are sick of the heat head to this country for more moderate temperatures. It’s the best time to see the world’s largest waterfall system, Iguazú Falls, and to whale watch in Peninsula Valdes. Also be sure to catch the Tango BA Festival y Mundial, an international tango festival!

6. Geneva, Switzerland

August is the best month to visit beautiful Geneva and Switzerland. The warm weather is great for walking tours of the old city where you can see the beautiful architecture and history, or stop in a local shop or café for a rest.

7. Alaska

Head to America’s northernmost state for its warmest weather and beautiful wildlife. Go to Glacier Bay National Park for sights that are inaccessible in winter, like glaciers, grand forests, and animals like puffins and whales.

8. Scotland

August is Scotland’s least rainy and warmest month, meaning it is the best weather you will get in this country. Take in the area’s natural beauty and hike up the famous Ben Nevis mountain on the northern tip of the country. In the south, Edinburgh’s will be buzzing with the arrival of the Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival.

9. Chicago, Illinois

Chicago has everything you could want from a city in the summer: air-conditioned museums, a great food scene in both restaurants and food trucks, and the Lollapalooza music festival that takes place in Grant Park on beautiful Lake Michigan.

10. Malaysia

With temperatures averaging 27 °C and lots of sun, Malaysia is a great place to be in August. To check out the beautiful wildlife head to Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, or enjoy the weather on a beach along the sea.
